Somalia Yardımeli Hospital Board of Trustees Meeting Held

Yardımeli President Dr. Sadık Danışman, General Manager İmdat Kuzu and Yardımeli Europe Coordinator Hayriye Tufanoğlu attended the Board of Trustees meeting of Somalia Yardımeli Hospital.

The Region’s Most Important Health Investment: Yardımeli Hospital

The 100-bed Somalia Yardımeli Hospital, which started operating in 2016 in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, continues to serve as one of the most important healthcare infrastructures in the region. Originally planned as a maternity and children's hospital, our hospital has gained the function of a “General Hospital” with the addition of new outpatient clinics in line with developing conditions and needs.

Our local partner organization in Somalia, Manhal Charitable Organization, is also responsible for operating the hospital. The hospital includes an emergency department, 17 outpatient clinics in different specialties, operating rooms, adult and pediatric intensive care units, pharmacy, imaging center, laboratory, blood bank, conference and training halls, guesthouse and a modest mosque located in the hospital garden. With its high-quality service, expert physicians and medical staff, it continues to operate as one of the preferred healthcare institutions in the region.

Expansion Works of Our Hospital Continue

Due to increasing needs in the region, a previous board decision approved the construction of additional buildings to expand the hospital and the establishment of a Health Sciences University building. With these new buildings, the hospital capacity will increase, and once the Health Sciences University becomes operational, qualified healthcare professionals will be trained for both the hospital and Somalia. Currently, approximately 1000 m² of expansion work has already been completed in the existing building.

The Board of Trustees Meeting Was Held at Somalia Yardımeli Hospital with Full Participation

The board meeting, previously held at the Istanbul headquarters, was held this year at our hospital. The board of trustees consisting of Yardımeli and Manhal Charity leaders and administrators reviewed the hospital’s activities, physical condition, equipment and financial status in detail. Presentations by the hospital management provided statistical data and information about all activities carried out during the year.

Following a previous board decision, a study was initiated to create statistical data on infant mortality rates. Within this program, approximately 100 pregnant women were monitored at regular intervals throughout their pregnancies. These mothers were invited with their babies to a program held in the hospital conference hall. The Somali Minister of Health, the Minister of Human Rights and Family Affairs, and nine members of parliament attended the event.

Brother Family, Orphan Education, Water Wells, Milk Goat and Cataract Projects…

Besides hospital and healthcare services, Yardımeli has been implementing projects such as Brother Family, Orphan Education, Water Wells and Milk Goat in Somalia for many years. Our delegation visiting Mogadishu for the hospital board meeting also had the opportunity to inspect and observe these activities on site.

Cataract Surgeries

Cataract, which is widespread in Africa and particularly in Somalia due to malnutrition and excessive exposure to sunlight, can be treated with a simple and affordable surgery. Through operations carried out at our hospital’s eye clinic, patients who had been unable to see for years regain their sight and reconnect with life. Our delegation witnessed emotional moments with patients who regained their vision.

Brother Family Project

The Brother Family project, successfully implemented by our association since its establishment in oppressed regions, strengthens bonds of brotherhood. Through regular monthly financial support, families in need receive assistance. During the program, our delegation met with beneficiary families in Somalia and delivered the donations entrusted by our donors.

Orphan Education

Orphans entrusted to us by Allah have always been among the priority areas of our association. Through the Orphan Education project, orphans are supported financially so that they can continue their education. Our delegation met with orphan students receiving educational support in Somalia and also visited orphanages supported by Yardımeli, bringing joy to the children with gifts.

Milk Goat Project

Within the scope of the Milk Goat project, one of our microfinance initiatives, milk goats were distributed to beneficiary families. These animals help families contribute to their household income.

Visits

Our delegation visited the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Mogadishu and met with Ambassador Alper Aktaş. They provided information about the association’s general activities and projects in Somalia. Ambassador Aktaş expressed appreciation for the association’s work in Somalia and emphasized the importance of the hospital for the region.

The delegation also visited TİKA and the Health Sciences University operating in Mogadishu. In addition, the Turkish Red Crescent Somalia team visited our hospital and met with the delegation.

Somalia Yardımeli Hospital is a unique institution brought to life through the support of our donors and the extraordinary efforts of Yardımeli, touching the lives of thousands who lack access to healthcare. We extend our gratitude to our donors, Yardımeli Somalia Coordinator Emre Çitil, our local partner Manhal, hospital CEO İbrahim Bey and all staff on behalf of the oppressed and those in need.
